Uitamine
Uitamine :meaning “wandering” or “to wander” in Estonian.
Taken over the last three years, Uitamine is an ongoing project in which I explore rural European spaces and the human impact on these landscapes. The aim of the project is to create photos devoid of any human presence, while still conveying the inevitable mark that we leave on the world.
I have photographed empty spaces to create a purposefully vague and therefore timeless atmosphere around this work. The work has made using a variety of 35mm black & white film stocks, helping to emulate the classic style of photography. I am interested in creating work in this style because I feel that the preservation of traditional documentary photography is vital to my practice. Much of my work is influenced by that of Lewis Baltz, John Myers & John Gossage.
The project is ongoing and I will continue to make work in the coming years, hoping to return to Estonia (the location of this set) but also further into rural areas of Eastern Europe.
